Student Council, by definition, is a curricular or extra-curricular activity for students within elementary and secondary schools around the world. Student Councils often serve to engage students in learning about democracy and leadership, as originally espoused by John Dewey in “Democracy and Education” (1917). Students must meet numerous criteria to be eligible to run for office, including being in academic good standing, obtaining teacher recommendations, and addressing the student body with their platforms.
