Student Council, by definition, is a curricular or extra-curricular activity for students within elementary and secondary schools around the world. Student Councils often serve to engage students in learning about democracy and leadership, as originally espoused by John Dewey in “Democracy and Education” (1917).
All Saints Catholic Academy Student Council:
ASCA Student Council Representatives are elected in the 5th, 6th, and 7th grades in September of every school year. In addition, ASCA Student Council Officers are 8th grade students who are chosen in June of the previous school year. Student Council members are annually installed at the 9 A.M. mass on the first Friday of October.

ASCA’s Student Council operates with the following responsibilities:
- Set an example for other students in leadership and academics
- Help our ASCA community at large
- Make positive changes
- Assist teachers in school wide projects
- Promote and uphold ideas and activities for the student population
- Inspire each individual to make positive decisions in life
- Represent All Saints Catholic Academy
- Take care of the school environment
- Report any problems in school
- Make sure each student is valued and respected
ASCA’s Student Council has the following duties:
- Collect tag day money and food for local food pantries
- Lead our school in faith formation during morning prayer and dismissal
- Make each individual feel special on his/her birthday
- Assist local animal rescue foundations by collecting coupons for dog and cat food and products

ASCA’s Student Council has already lived up to their responsibilities during the 2011-12 school year. Examples of the impact they have had on ASCA and the community at-large are:
- As of Dec. 2011 over 120 bags of nonperishable food has been collected and distributed to local community food banks throughout Bayonne for this academic year alone.
- ASCA’s Student Council has not only raised money for the before-mentioned charities but has raised social awareness for these charities as well.
