Congratulations to Bianca Lumang, 4th grade, who was announced as a runner-up in Optimum Community’s Black History Month Essay Contest! Bianca’s essay, written about abolitionist and women’s right activist, Sojourner Truth, was chosen from more than 300 essays in the elementary school category.

Students throughout the tristate area were invited to submit an essay naming an African American with whom they would choose to spend a day and explain why. Bianca was awarded an iPad mini and had an opportunity to read her winning essay aloud to her classmates and special guest Assemblywoman Angela McKnight.
